A breakers yard isn't the same as a crusher. When a car is worth more in parts than as metal, an engine that still pulls, a gearbox, a clean set of doors, an alternator in demand, we pay over straight scrap value because we can recover and resell those parts. That's the difference between weighing a car in and actually breaking it.
Either way we strip to the same end-of-life standard: fluids drained, battery and airbags handled, the shell recycled, and you still get the paperwork that closes the car off your name. Common runners, Astra, Focus, Qashqai, Transit, tend to carry the most parts demand. Tell us the reg and we'll say honestly whether it's a parts car or a scrap car. What carries value shifts with the model and the market. A clean DPF or a working gearbox off a common diesel can be worth more than the rest of the car put together, while a good panel for a model that has gone out of production can stay in demand for years. We grade what comes off, sell it on to the trade and the public, and recycle the shell through the proper route. That is why a tidy breaker often beats the straight weighbridge price, and why it pays to ask before you let anyone crush a car with usable parts still on it.
