Damaged isn't always scrap

The insurance industry sorts damaged cars into four categories. Each has different rules and different value. For an EV with battery damage after a crash, don't move the car, call us. A damaged HV pack is a managed fire risk; we bring the right kit. Reg + photos + a sentence about what happened gets you a real quote the same day.

Damaged & EV scrapping, common questions

Will you buy a Cat S or Cat N write-off?

Yes. these are our bread and butter. A Cat S (structural) or Cat N (non-structural) write-off can still be repaired and resold, or stripped for parts depending on what's economical. We pay more for these than for a fully scrapped car because there's usable value in the shell or the running gear.

What about a Cat A or Cat B?

Cat A is crush-only and needs a strict destruction route. Cat B is parts-only: the body shell must be destroyed but mechanical parts can be reused. We can discuss both, but the paperwork is stricter, so mention the category when you call.

Do you take EVs that crashed or were flooded?

Yes, and this is one of the few times where we strongly insist on photos before we set off. Damaged high-voltage batteries can be a fire risk, if there's any sign of pack damage (smell, smoke, hissing, swelling) we may need to bring specialist recovery equipment. Tell us straight what happened; we'd much rather deal with the truth than discover it on the back of the truck.

How much is the battery in an old EV worth?

Sometimes more than the shell. Older EV packs can still have parts or refurbisher value, but it depends on age, condition and battery health. Send the reg, battery age and rough mileage and we'll quote properly.

Will you collect from a body shop?

Often. If a body shop has a customer who's decided not to repair after seeing the estimate, we'll collect direct from the shop with the customer's authorisation, saves them moving the car twice. We work with several Glasgow shops on this regularly.
