Edinburgh's Low Emission Zone retired a noticeable batch of older diesels (pre-Euro 6). If your diesel can't drive into the city centre any more and the next MOT looks expensive, scrapping is often cheaper than retrofitting. We collect from the suburbs, so no LEZ issue for our recovery truck, and the older diesels typically have decent catalytic-converter value that pure scrap operations don't pay for.

Often meaningful. Older Prius, Auris and Lexus hybrid packs can still have parts value even after heavy mileage. Send the reg, rough mileage and photos, and we'll quote properly.

Common pattern. The customer authorises us to collect from the shop, we pay the customer the salvage value by bank transfer, and the shop avoids storing a write-off it'll never recover repair costs on. We regularly plan this around Granton, Sighthill and Leith industrial estates.

All four can be discussed. Cat A and Cat B need stricter destruction and paperwork routes; Cat S and Cat N can sometimes be repairable or useful as parts donors. Mention the category when you call so we plan the paperwork properly.

We take them. If a car's been submerged past the floor pan, the electrics are usually finished even if it'll start. Don't run the engine to 'dry it out', water in the cylinders can hydrolock and bend a conrod, which makes the engine worthless. Just leave it where it is and we'll winch it onto the truck. Insurance often writes these off as Cat S or Cat B.
