Because the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 made cash payments for scrap metal illegal across the UK. Every legitimate yard pays by bank transfer or cheque. Anyone offering you a wad of notes is either operating illegally or trying to scam you into thinking the deal's already locked. Bank transfer also gives you a record, which matters if there's a dispute later.

Most banks see it within seconds via Faster Payments. Some older accounts and a few credit-union accounts take up to two hours. We initiate the transfer at your kerb before we drive away, so you can confirm receipt on your banking app before we leave.

Not with us. Whatever we quote on the phone or WhatsApp is what hits your bank account, assuming the car matches the description. The only adjustment is if the photos showed a four-wheel runner but the actual car is missing the wheels and has been stripped, then we'll re-quote honestly rather than walk away.
